Living in Freedom

As God’s children, the Holy Spirit comes to free us through the love of Christ, as well as freeing us to live for Christ.

According to the gospel of Luke, Jesus announced his manifesto by quoting from the Old Testament prophet Isaiah using these word: ‘The Spirit of the Sovereign Lᴏʀᴅ is on me, because the Lᴏʀᴅ has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…’ Isaiah 61:1 NIV

This is good news! One of the great purposes for which Jesus has come is in order to heal and restore our lives and to bring freedom to us. At the heart of the very nature of God himself is a passion to bring us into increasing levels of freedom.

  • FREEDOM

When we talk about freedom it is important to realise what is meant by this word from a biblical point of view. Biblical freedom does not mean freedom to do anything you like. No, it’s much richer and more wonderful than that. It is a freedom that touches every part of our lives, spirit, soul and body.

The freedom Jesus offers us is both a freedom FROM and a freedom to BECOME.

Jesus wants to bring us complete freedom from anything and everything that has hurt and damaged us. For example, he wants to set us free from destructive ways of thinking and behaving, from wounds caused by our own mistakes and things people have done to us, and from any bondages we may have in our lives for whatever reason.

Jesus also wants to free you to become everything he made you to be. Ultimately, that means becoming more and more like him. Imagine that: totally secure, free from all fear and anxiety, full of joy and peace, able to walk through the everyday challenges of life confident in the Father’s care and provision, and living in joyful obedience to the will of God for your life. Now that’s true freedom!
